Majority Of Americans Planning On Watching Some Olympic Coverage

The 2014 Winter Olympics officially get under way this weekend, and many Americans say they'll be tuning in.  Two-thirds of the respondents in a YouGov poll say they'll likely see "at least a little" of the sporting event, while 20-percent intend on catching most of the competitions.  And even though 49-percent say they aren't interested in the games, 35-percent of this group admit they'll still be tuning in.  The figure skating competition is generating the most excitement, with 55-percent looking forward to the event.  Ski jumping appeals to 47-percent, and 41-percent are eager to see the speed skating competition.

But some Americans are intentionally avoiding the Olympics,  Eleven-percent say they're boycotting the games over the rise of homophobia and hate crimes against gays in Russia.  The 2014 Winter Olympics will take place in Sochi, Russia.  The two-week international sporting event officially begins with the Opening Ceremony on Friday.
