Carrie Underwood Shares Heartbreaking Reaction To Joe Diffie's Death

Carrie Underwood is completely heartbroken over Joe Diffie’s death.

The American Idol star joined country lovers in grieving the loss of one of its greatest legends as Diffie died Sunday (March 29) due to complications related to his fight with COVID-19 (coronavirus). Diffie, who was 61 when he passed away, revealed he’d tested positive for the novel virus in a statement just two days prior to succumbing to the disease, adding that he’d been receiving medical care at the time.

Taking to social media last night, Underwood added to the chorus of country fans and musicians who shared tributes in the “Pickup Man” crooner’s honor. “Absolutely no words for the loss of Joe Diffie,” she tweeted in response to the devastating news. “The music and legacy he leaves behind are legendary. Prayers for his family and friends. 💔”

In addition to the “Cry Pretty” singer, stars like Travis TrittKelsea BalleriniTrace Adkins, and others shared heartfelt messages in Diffie’s memory.

"I’m so sad to learn that Joe Diffie has passed away due to complications from the Coronavirus," Tritt wrote. "Joe was a good friend and touring partner with me in the 90’s. We had a lot of great times together, both onstage and offstage. … Deepest condolences to Joe’s family, friends and fans."

"Oh my God. One of the all-time GREAT vocalists. Joe Diffie was my friend. RIP, buddy," Adkins tweeted, as Ballerini lamented of Diffie, "Consistently one of the kindest artists to run into. This is really, really heavy. Thinking of his beautiful wife and family.”

Diffie, whose death comes five months after releasing his final album, is survived by five children.
