Stella Lefty shared her reaction to a Saturday Night Live Weekend Update sketch about her music.
SNL’s Colin Jost said in the cut-for-time sketch that Lefty’s “Boston” reached No. 1 in country music, though the viral single has garnered criticism from listeners who have drawn similarities to “Stick Season” by Noah Kahan (Kahan is credited as a songwriter on Lefty's single). Jost introduced Lefty, played by Veronika Slowikowska, to the Weekend Update desk to comment. Slowikowska took the mic to perform new Boston-inspired songs with not-so-subtle nods to hits by Chappell Roan, Dolly Parton, Taylor Swift and more.
“I don’t think about it. I just write songs. It’s like magic,” Slowikowska said, coming up with lyrics to the Harry Potter theme song. “But it’s good, right?”
“It’s not good, Stella,” Jost replied. “It’s great.”
Lefty laughed along. She replied in the comments on Instagram: “i’m so dead [Veronika Slowikowska] ur voice is fire.” She added on her story on Thursday (October 1) that the sketch was “funny asf tbh,” and reiterated that Slowikowska has an “amazing” voice.
Lefty released her 14-track debut album, Long Way Home, on August 21. The project includes “Lean In, Kiss Me,” “Thinking ‘bout You,” “Bottom,” “I Know I Know,” “Something To Lose” with Vincent Mason, and more. Lefty said at the time that she’s “so incredibly proud of these songs. …I hope you all love this album as much as I do. These songs are all a labor of love and many many late nights making sure these songs sound exactly how they do.”
