Bobby's First Hospital Moments With Baby Billie

Bobby shared another glimpse into becoming a new dad, this time focusing on the moments surrounding the hospital and the decisions he made leading up to meeting his daughter for the first time.

He had heard how important skin-to-skin contact is immediately after a baby is born. Wanting to be prepared, he made a decision before heading to the hospital... he shaved his chest completely. He explained that he wanted his daughter to experience direct skin contact rather than “some gross chest hair,” comparing it to the difference between giving a massage through a sweatshirt versus directly on skin. While the room pushed back, questioning whether it was necessary, Bobby stood by the decision, saying he wanted her to have that connection without anything in the way. The result, however, came with consequences.

Bobby admitted that as his chest hair began to grow back, it became “itching so bad,” even dealing with an ingrown hair that made the experience uncomfortable. Still, he said he didn’t regret it, believing it gave his daughter a better first experience. When it came time for the actual moment, Bobby described how prepared he was. He wore a sweatsuit with no shirt underneath, zipped up and ready. As soon as the baby was born, he unzipped it, tucked her feet inside, and held her against his chest, creating that immediate skin-to-skin contact. He described the moment simply as something he was happy he had planned for.

The conversation shifted to another unexpected part of the experience, the condition of a newborn immediately after birth. Bobby recalled the medical team asking if he wanted the baby cleaned before being placed on his chest. He mentioned hearing a term used for the substance on a newborn, jokingly referred to in the room as “cheese." He ultimately told them to do whatever was best, noting that his wife Caitlin, felt the same way. He believes the baby was lightly wiped down before being handed over, though not fully cleaned. They did manage to capture it on video, Bobby was able to film his wife when she first held their daughter.

As he talked through the experience, Bobby reflected on how long they had avoided revealing the baby’s gender publicly, which made adjusting to saying “she” feel surprisingly new. It brought up a weird moment in the very beginning of his wife's pregnancy, Bobby said Eddie had unintentionally let it slip on-air, referring to the baby as “she,” which set off a scramble to fix it. Bobby described it as “one of the worst days” at the time, with clips being edited and messages exchanged to manage the mistake. But now, it's all good as it wasn't intentional, but Bobby is struggling with calling the baby "her" instead of "it."

There was something else Bobby heard in the hospital that caught him off guard. A nurse mentioned that some men have, at times, made inappropriate requests during childbirth, asking for an extra stitch after delivery, something referred to as the “husband stitch.” Bobby made it clear that while he and his wife often joke with each other, even he found that comment shocking and completely out of place for such a moment. He said it stuck with him enough that he later found himself laughing about how absurd it sounded, even as his wife reminded him it wasn’t something to joke about.
